Driving License Exchange in Spain

How to Avoid Bureaucratic Traffic: Driving License Exchange in Spain 🚗
You’ve moved to Spain, enjoying the sun, the sea, the good life… and then suddenly you find out your driving license is no longer valid! 😱

That’s exactly what happened to our client, who came to us asking: “Can I still drive, or should I start looking at e-bikes?” 🚲

We explained that it all depends on where the license was issued:
✅ EU & EEA countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) – no worries, your license stays valid.
❌ All other countries – licenses are only valid for the first 6 months after getting residency. After that, it’s either an exchange or new tests.

🔄 How does the exchange process work?
If your country is on the list of 33 with an agreement, it’s a simple administrative process.
If not – you’ll have to take the Spanish driving exam.

Luckily, our client’s country was on the list, so we quickly took care of everything:
✔ Booked an appointment at the DGT (Traffic Authority) 🏢
✔ Helped gather all necessary documents 📑
✔ Accompanied him as translators 🗣

🎉 The result? Spanish license in hand, ready to hit the road!

If you’re in the same situation and not sure what to do next, get in touch! We’ll guide you through the process, handle the paperwork, and make it all as smooth as possible. 💪
